VINTAGE WEEKEND OR SLICE OF HEAVEN?

What do you call a place where it is sunny everyday and every car you look at is a classic British auto? The 1999 SVRA Vintage Race weekend September 10-12 1999 at the Watkins Glen International Racetrack in the Finger Lakes region of New York was just that, a Slice of Heaven!
On Friday the village of Watkins Glen hosts the Grand Prix Festival. The village was transformed back 50 years to the early years of road racing in America. Imagine sitting on a bale of hay, the sounds of tires screaming, waiting for a car climbing the hill exiting Watkins Glen! I may not have been here 50 years ago, but with this day, I AM.
Before the race re-enactment you spend time talking with drivers who actually raced these streets back then. You can walk among some of the finer examples of classic autos at the Concourse. Then as the sun sets fireworks fill the sky.
The rest of the weekend is spent at the Watkins Glen International Racetrack. The SRVA vintage races allows the observer to witness just about every possible vintage auto race. Then you get behind the wheel
of your classic and drive the track mastered by such greats as Stearling Moss and Jackie Stewert. The track where America hosted the U.S. Grand Prix for 20 years.

Yeah, A Slice of Heaven.....
